A rather scarce little imprint of the life of important early American Methodist circuit-rider, Benjamin Abbott [1732-1792]. He was converted in 1772 and began work as an evangelist; Stevens styles him the most personally spiritual and mystical of the late 18th century evangelists in America. People were often known to simply melt to their knees in tears while he preached, and he spoke often of visions, dreams, and other spiritual experiences as occurring with great frequency.

Ffirth, John. Experience and Gospel Labors of the Rev. Benjamin Abbott; to which is Annexed, a Narrative of His Life and Death. New York. Carlton & Lanahan. Nd. c.1850. 284pp.

Tidy cloth with some spotting as shown, but very solid. Textually crisp, clean, and solid with very faint tide market at upper exterior corner of block with decreasing visibility throughout the volume.
