A very rare work by influential 19th century medical educator, Charles D. Meigs. No other examples on the market or in the auction record. His works on women's health and midwife / midwifery have appeared, though infrequently, and are desirable at auction.

The present copy belonged to Dr. James Porter Lynde of Gardner, MA in 1852 and is inscribed by him the blank ffep.

Contents include material regarding: wet nurses, vaccination, blindness, sickness in the womb, typhoid, Franz Simon and his analysis of breast milk [and that of the cow, ass, goat, ewe, and bitch], croup, breast feeding, still birth, jaundice, on green stool, diarrhea, bowel complaints, black blood, etc., 

Good + to very good save chip at spine as shown in the image. Otherwise, a solid, crisp example of a scarce text. Some scattered foxing. Includes a few marginal notes and at least one prescription in the hand of J. P. Lynde.
