A very rare preserved original "Little Library" box of chapbooks produced by the Religious Tract Society in the 1850's.

The original "box" to house the chapbooks is in the shape of a book, complete with gold foredges, etc., with the front cover opening to reveal the 31 little publications inside. Each chapbook is then printed in matching style with an engraved cartouche surrounding the title and publisher.

Titles include: The Bible-Printers; Charlies Dwight, Or, The Missionary's Son; Nayah, the Little Hindoo Convert, Do not Forget to Pray, Ragged Scholar's Home Made Happy, The Marys of the Bible, The Honest Cabin Boy, The Name on the Rock, etc. Then each chapbook has a unique hymn printed on the rear.

The present example is the most complete we have ever handled, including what seems to be the entire suite of intended tracts, the 31 filling it entirely to the top. The book housing is worn with front dover detached, but still neatly able to fit on. The tracts are remarkably preserved with very little wear. A couple of a turned corner and some very light handling. But very good or better.

Includes a period note, "Ella Miner Braddock from her Father in 1859."
