1851 SLAVERY SINFUL. The Sinfulness of American Slavery by Rev. Charles Elliott. 378pp.
A very solid, usable example of a scarce work, but, alas, only volume ii. The two-volume set generally fetches $600 - $800.
This was perhaps the most thorough exploration of the ethics of slavery published in America, the two volumes reaching to over 700pp together. Very desirable.
Elliott, Rev. Charles. B. F. Tefft [ed.]. Sinfulness of American Slavery: Proved from its Evil Sources; its Injustice; its Wrongs; its Contrariety to Many Scriptural Commands, Prohibitions, and Principles, and to the Christian Spirit; and from its Evil Effects; Together with Observations on Emancipation, and the Duties of American Citizens in Regard to Slaver. Volume II. Cincinnati. L. Swormstedt & J. H. Power. 1851. 378pp.
Good, solid example with cloth faded, dulled on spine, and soiled as shown. Very solid. Early ownership signatures of E. D. Young and C. R. Young. Tide stains to title, rapidly dissipating throughout the first few signatures. Very tight and clean.
