Lowrie, Walter M. Sermons Preached in China. New York. Robert Carter. 1851. 454pp.
Born in 1784 in Edinburgh, Scotland, Lowrie was corresponding secretary to the Presbyterian Missionary Society in the United States and gave the address when the first two missionaries were sent in 1838. It was shortly thereafter that he felt called to leave his comfortable living in the United States to serve the people of Macau for the Master. His timeline corresponds very closely with that of William Chalmers Burns.
The present sermons were published in the United States shortly before he returned in 1853 for a missionary preaching tour. The current copy was gifted by him to Joseph Cellars while preaching in Philadelphia.
Good -, quite worn and bumped. Title foxed. Solid though and quite rare with nice provenance.
