A superb volume with excellent content. All years are fascinating reading, but 1861 is especially interesting historically as the content begins to shift toward talking to children about the Civil War, including accounts valorizing the death of soldiers, consoling orphans, talking about how Washington cared for soldiers as a means of raising support among children and mothers for soldiers heading off to war, etc.,
