1852 PRAYER REVIVAL. Samuel Backus. The Prayer-Meeting Assistant.
Very scarce work on the history of prayer meetings and their connectivity to revivals of the 19th century. Written when Samuel Backus, grandson of important early Baptist, Isaac Backus, when he was 65 years of age. He draws on his personal experiences during the Second Great Awakening and recalls miraculous answers to prayer, discusses the importance of the prayer meeting as distinct from the prayer closet, etc.,
Samuel Backus published an account of the revival under his ministry in Woodstock, New York in the Panoplist for 1832.
