1856 WHITE SLAVERY. Democrats Ready to Sell Irish and German Immigrants into Slavery!

The election of 1856 is often described as the most vitriolic of the 19^th century. In the present tract, published by supporters of John C. Fremont, James Buchanan is charged with wanting to enslave white immigrants, particularly German and Irish, who are unemployed and “free-loading” off the system. He apparently is open to “giving” them to whoever will clothe, feed, and house them, including their children, in perpetuity.
