1857 JEREMY TAYLOR. Exercises of Holy Living & Holy Dying in Fine Thomas Kerslake Binding!
Beautiful set of Taylor's classic in a really beautiful pair of matched bindings by Thomas Kerslsake of Bristol. A devotional classic that was influential on John Wesley, etc., and retains popularity and is in print still to this day.
The Rule and Exercises of Holy Living and The Rule and Exercises of Holy Dying. London. Bell and Daldy. Fleet Street. 1857. 424 + 327pp.
Fine brown pebbled morocco, raised bands, gooled, hand-sewn bands, marbled foredges and endpapers. A very fine printing. Both volumes bear the binders mark of Thomas Kerslake of Bristol and a charming bookplate of Mary B. Budgett, reference in the Journal of the Ex Libris Society, 1901, as being by Henry Stacy Marks [monogrammed HSM in the plate]. Marks' works have sold for tens of thousands of dollars. Lovely example of one of his lithographs.
Some minor rubbing, very good overall. A really splendid pair.
