1858 JOHN WESLEY. Charmingly Presented Fine Baxter Print of the Founder of Methodism
A wonderfully presented, fully original John Wesley highest quality engraving executed by George Baxter [1804-1867].
The production date of this particular engraving is estimated by historical records at 1858. Not only were Baxter's prints of the very highest quality, remaining highly collectible today, but this is a particularly fine example. It remains housed in its period ebonized wood frame with reverse painted glass in black with gold rim and text indicating Baxter's production. This is a real charmer executed in the manner of a mourning ring or similar, with the characteristic black with gold textual relief.
5 3/4 inches by 6 1/4 inches. Very good state with stains on rear paper covering not impacting frame or images. Frame is very solid with normal and attractive patination. Original loop hanger is intact and usable. Some minor dust at corners of glass. Easily taken care of. Lower right corner has one very small area of lifting to reverse glass painting.
