A very scarce work, with no copies on the market in any form, on the outbreak of the Fulton Street Prayer Revival to Philadelphia in 1858 where it blossomed and burned . . . but also hit at the tensions between the Old School and New School Presbyterians. Jenkins, of the New School, along with Albert Barnes, Thomas Brainerd, etc., were decidedly in favor.

Interestingly, the revival had two streams in Philadelphia, one more Old School, let by Princetonians like Joseph W. Alexander, and one New School, as described. The first was more doctrinal, along the lines of the Edward Dorr Griffin revivals earlier in the century. The latter [here advocated] more along the lines of its spiritual parent at Fulton Street.

Jenkins, John. Minister of Calvary Church, Locust Street, Philadelphia. Plain Thoughts on the Present Great Awakening. Philadelphia. Presbyterian Book-Store. 1858. 36pp.

Good + in original wraps, early seller stamp on first page of text, some light foxing.
