1858 TROY PRAYING BAND. The Revivalist Prayer Movement that Led to 80,000 Conversions!
What a wonderful revival item; a Cabinet Card photograph of the Troy Praying Band. I don't recall ever seeing one of these before!
The "Band was founded in 1858 by Joseph Hillman and Samuel Halstead, and was composed of Hillman, Halstead, and a few other wealthy, godly men, were inspired by the Prayer Revivals at Fulton Street, etc., but took their movement on the road, leading prayer meetings at Camp-Meetings, Methodist Revivals, etc.,
It is remarkable in that it was a movement of the wealthy demonstrating prophetically that their wealth was not enough to change people's lives; it took the work of the Spirit in a might revival. They are credited with the conversion of and activation to faithful service some 80,000 Christians in total.
There is a wonderful history of the movement in the Guide to Holiness [Phoebe Palmer's Paper].
Very good condition.
