An exceptionally scarce early sammelband of imprints form the mission press at Maulmain, Burmah, including the third printing of Adoniram Judson's Septenary. Essentially a complete manual of doctrine and practice for pastoral ministry in Burmah, Judson's Septenary is exceptionally rare, with not a single example traced in the auction record for over 100 years.

Additional works, also each rare, by Edward Abiel Stevens [1814-1886], Adoniram Judson's protege and most trusted younger recruit. An excellent biography of him available HERE

To make the lovely volume even more rooted in its context with Judson, this assemblage was the property of Abram T. Rose, graduate of Hamilton Literary & Theological Institute who was appointed missionary to Burmah in 1851. Stevens was initially the head of the Karen seminary, and the duties were transferred to Rose in 1857. This volume likely used by Rose to teach Karen converts and prepare them for pastoral ministry. Rose also an important figure for his role in helping revise Judson's Karen New Testament for the edition of 1873. A few marginal marks and minor notes by Rose throughout.

A very tidily preserved volume in original full calf with a small onlay label on spine in Burmese. The first work pulled forward in the block, but otherwise quite good. Some minor rubbing on extremities as shown.
