A very rare survivor. The present is a c.1857-1860 Parian medallion of an extremely young C. H. Spurgeon in the springtime of his ministry. Executed by William Beattie [1810-1870], we trace no other examples.
Housed in a period circular frame by John Wooster of London, and also under the original domed glass. At some later date, the Parian was mounted to a chipboard backing and has had some rather mediocre restorations executed likely at the same time. The whole housing a bit shaken, but presents beautifully and certainly looks beautiful on the wall.
11.5 x 11.5 inches.
