An absolutely charming mid-19th century silhouette of James Caughey [1810-1891]. Caughey was one of the most vocal proponents of the importance of emotional engagement in revivals; he came to be known as "The King of the Revivalists" and his works on the the outpourings during the 1840's-70's are still in high demand. He is also largely viewed as the primary influence on a young William Booth, instilling in him the all or nothing brand of Christianity that would mark the early years of the Salvation Army.

4 x 5.5 in early simple pine plank frame with cut tin matting. Rear is papered over with early newsprint from some sort of prohibitionist work. Very handsomely preserved.
