Very rare work detailing the martyrdom of missionaries caught up in the Sepoy Rebellion of 1857-1858. Chaffing under the rule of the East India Company, a well-organized, pre-planned resistance took place, attempting to regain control of the city of Meerut, near Delhi.

Unfortunately, even though in many areas British missionaries were distinguished from the Colonial agents, like in China during the Boxer Rebellion, rumors spread that the missionaries were colonial agents. More specifically, Meerut was over-run with rumors that there were going to be masses of forced conversions to Christianity. Though false, it energized the rebellion in general and fueled the martyrdom of dozens of British and American missionaries.

Very scarce with no other examples on the market or traced at auction.
