Wonderful little Civil War relic. The present Bible belonged to Peter A. Campbell, Captain in the 127th Volunteers of Pennsylvania who engaged at the Battle of Gettysburg. He died in 1919 at the age of 85. Born in 1834, he was mustered into service on August 2, 1862. The present Bible was in all likelihood presented him either by a family member or the Christian Commission before he headed out to the front.
The Holy Bible, Containing the Old and New Testaments; Translated Out of the Original Tongues, and with the Former Translations Diligently Compared and Revised. New York. American Bible Society. 1861. Diamond 32mo.
Original full black decorative leather, quite heavily rubbed, but attractive and appropriate. Clasp absent from closure. Interior good + to very good. One slight point of weakness.
