A very attractive and rather rare edition in English of de Chateaubriand's history of the early martyrdoms of the Church, largely under the Roman Empire.
Born in 1768, he was notable in the late 18th and early 19th centuries in France as being part of the intellectual elite, broadly thought of as one of the most persuasive writers of French Romanticism, and yet with a deep commitment to Christ and His church.
