A very finely bound and presented first edition of James Conway’s Forays among Salmon and Deer, a classic 19th-century British sporting memoir documenting fly fishing for Atlantic salmon and deer stalking across the Scottish Highlands.
Written by James Conway Walter under the pen name James Conway, the work originally appeared in a shorter format in 1859 as Letters from the Highlands. The 1861 Chapman and Hall edition represents the revised, retitled, and definitive version, expanded with four supplementary chapters in an appendix detailing practical angling techniques, tackle, and stalking methods.

Very good in a period half morocco binding with raised bands, tooled compartments and charming mineral blue marbled boards with matching endpapers and all edges of the text block similarly marbled. Very handsome. Some light rubbing at extremities, and very minor scattered foxing. A very nice example.
