A very nicely preserved Union issue New Testament carried by Robert G. Murphy of Company K, 123rd Pennsylvania Volunteers.
The 123rd Pennsylvania Infantry was organized at Allegheny City, PA, and mustered in August 1862 under the command of Colonel John B. Clark.
Moved to Harrisburg, and then to Washington D.C. on August 20 to 23, 1862, They then engaged in the Maryland Campaign, and in October and November of 1862 at the Battle of Fredericksburg. Then to Burnside's Second Campaign, Mud March, and the Battle of Chancellorsville.
