Perkins, Justin; and Thomas Laurie. Historical Sketch of the Mission to the Nestorians and of the Assyria Mission. American Board of Commissioners for Foreign Missions, New York, John A. Gray. 1862. 32pp.
Very scarce work, including the original map showing the country of the Nestorians. The narrative discusses the Nestorians and their history, as well as the Perkins' personal missionary experience in Persia. Thomas Laurie's work is a history of the mission with much detail on the specific stations, including size, ethnic make-up, and challenges.
Justin Perkins (1805-1869) was an American Presbyterian missionary and the first American citizen to live in Persia. He went to the region in 1833 under the auspices of the American Board of Commissioners for Foreign Missions, where he established several schools, preached and was an important early Syriac scholar, publishing several books in that language and also in English.
Good, crisp text, removed from larger sammelband with associated weakness. Quite fragile as expected.
Very rare with only one other copy on the market, and that at $225.00.
