A very good, large format example of the Methodist New Connexion hymn book in an elaborate and finely preserved morocco binding with morocco onlay to the pastedown reading:

Presented to the Rev. William Cocker, D.D. as a Memorial of His Second Election to the Office of President of the Methodist New Connexion Conference, Held at Longton, 1880.

William Cocker [1817-1902] was one of the most influential of the New Connexion Methodists, a populist and revivalist splinter group from early Methodism who believed the emerging Methodist polity gave too much authority to Bishops and did not empower the local church, stifling the work of the Spirit at the local level. William Booth, initially joined the Methodist New Connexion for these same reasons and is somewhat illustrative of their overall revivalist tone.

Cocker became President of the Conference and was author of The Immediate Blessedness of Departed SaintsA Charge to Young Ministers, etc.,

Anonymous. Hymns for Divine Worship. Compiled for the use of the Methodist New Connexion. Founded A. D. 1797. London. Methodist New Connexion Book-Room. 1863. 807pp.

A very good copy, bound in leather, generally solid, with some light foxing, but generally bright pages. A beautiful example.
