A rare mid-19th century Baptist eschatological work published in Louisville during the height of the Civil War. Though it went through at least four editions [this is the third], it is inexplicably scarce. It appears that the runs were quite small and that the work was available largely by direct purchase from the author and advertised in his paper, etc.

J. C. [Joseph Calvert] Waller [1828-1903] was a noted Kentucky Baptist preacher, and the son of Kentucky Baptist pioneer preacher, George Waller. He was co-owner and editor of the Western Recorder [a Baptist paper] and Baptist Book-Store.

A period advertisement described the book as follows: "A work which treats of the Fall and Recovery of Man; the Personal Appearing of Christ, and His Reign on Earth a Thousand Years with the Risen, Translated and Glorified Saints; the signs of the near approach of the Millennial Period of Rest, and the Restitution of All Things. Also Chronological calculations of the Typical Periods and Prophetic Measurements, terminating with the close of this age and the commencement of the Reign of Peace."

[Kentucky, Baptist, Eschatology]. Waller, J. C. The Second Coming of Christ. The Restitution of All Things, and Our Lord's Personal Reign with His Glorified Saints in His Millennial Kingdom on Earth. Louisville, KY. John P. Morton & Co., Printers. 1864. Third Edition. 297pp.

A good - copy of a scarce work. Textually, solid and generally clean with light toning and foxing. Cloth with looses on boards, at corners, and hinges both through cloth, though still reasonably intact from the mull and interior endpapers.
