A fascinating work published right at the close of the Civil War detailing the work of a missionary who journeys to the South. Southerners are generally caste similarly to those being reached by missionary fields afar, i.e. uneducated, poor, morally bankrupt [slavery is here in mind], neglected, etc.,
It all has the effect of placing Southerners as 1. morally less than the slaves they Lorded over. 2. Not irredeemable, but worthy of missionary effort, especially the rural, poor, undereducated, etc,.
Rather rare. No copies in the trade or in the auction record.
