A wonderfully charming, Victorian binding edition of the Greek - Latin Polyglot and with provenance from influential Victorian author, Emily Sarah Holt [1836-1893].

Holt was one of the most influential of the Christian devotionalist / historical fiction writers of the Victorian era, composing over 50 volumes. They include devotional tales on John Wycliffe, the Martyrs of the Reformation, the Hussites, Huguenots, etc., Her works are consistently devotional, protestant, and carry strong female voices which have been compared to those of Jane Austen and Charlotte Bronte. Her works are often paired with those of Charlotte Yonge.

The volume is inscribed to her from her brother, James Maden Holt [1829-1911], Conservative Politician and MP for North East Lancashire.

Wonderful copy and association.
