1868 GYNECOLOGY & SURGICAL ABORTION. Rare 240pp Medical Manuscript with Focus on Gynegology
An extensive 240pp manuscript containing a mass of medical information in a close, legible hand. Nearly all the dates included are from 1868. It appears to be the working volume of a practicing physician rather than notes of lectures. No name indicated. The few notes that indicate any place show it to be American in origin.
In general, there are prescriptions, directions for appropriate diagnosis, and occasional notes about a given case or patient. As noted, there are extensive sections on various issues related to pregnancy, and rather detailed extensive text related to surgical abortion. An important MSs.
Contents include: Evidences of Pregnancy [extensive]; Hypothesis Re: Pregnancy; On the Duration of Pregnancy; Labor; Nausea and Vomiting; Constipation in Pregnancy; Pregnancy among Females of Delicate Constitution; A Grave Case of Uterine Hemorrhaging; On the Use of Electricity with Pregnant Patients [seemingly to induce labor]; On Operative Abortions and their Long Term Effects [Extensive]; Positioning in Utero; Dystocia [obstructed labor]; Obstruction of the Rectum by Feces; Rupture of the Uterus; Cerebro Spinal Meningitis; Post Mortem Examinations on Still Births; Notes of a Lecture by Professor Palmer on the Causes of Disease, Blood Letting, Thompson's System of Heat Steam and Pepper; etc. etc. More than half the volume specifically gynecological and obstetrics.
All extensive and detailed.
A good + copy, bound in half leather, lightly shaken, with handled pages.
