1869 JOHN L NEVIUS. Rare Narrative of Missionary Work in Outstation of China. Ningo.
Very scarce volume, the first published by Nevius, on missionary work in China. John Livingston Nevius [1829-1893] was one of the most influential missionaries to Asia in the 19th century. While working in China, what came to be known as the "Nevius" method of missionary work became the backbone for the very effective Presbyterian mission in Korea, etc.
The present volume details the first missionary activity ever in San-Poh, north of Ningpo. According to Nevius, it had never been visited by Westerners before he and F. F. Gough traveled there in 1856.
