A superb 146pp handwritten record of the Hook and Ladder company of Morenci, Michigan, including records for the years 1871-1878.
Excellent content, including accounts of drills [with around 20 members], elections and business of the local Hook and Ladder Company, a section in which the fireman are issued tickets for a local dance and any fireman coming without a partner to be fined $1.00, on the selection and cost of fireman's "suits," including coats, hats, and belts, the company votes to offer a reward for information regarding the source of a fire, one of the members of the Hook and Ladder Company fined for smoking; an invitation to attend a Grand Ball thrown by the Alert Hose Co. No. 1 of Hudson [Michigan] accepted; account of a fire at Paul Elliott's house; fire on Main Street; rule passed charging members 5 cents for any meeting missed; communication from Sitting Bull Engine Co. No. 1 in reference to a special Hook and Ladder convention in Detroit; and an interesting section discussing briefly the division of duties to hook men, bucket men, and roof men with some in charge of the feet of the ladders, etc.
Very attractive little item; appears to be lacking a first sheet. Else quite good and complete.
