Very attractive and rather scarce biography of early missionary to China, William Aitchison. Born in Glasgow, Scotland [1826], he emigrated to America to study theology at Yale. He graduated in 1851 and became pastor at Fitchville, CT. He was ordained at Norwich January 4, 1854, to go to Shanghai, China, as a missionary of the American Board and pioneered the work in Zhejiang.
During the unrest of 1858/1859, he was taken into the American embassy and offered passage from Peking to safety. Unfortunately, he was run down and exhausted and died en route.
