Born in 1828 and an Evangelical Christ-follower among the Quakers, Clark happened to purchase a copy of T. C. Upham’s work on the Interior Life. Certainly, Upham was instrumental in bringing the Christian mystic element [he also wrote a biography of Guyon] into the holiness movement. This made an easy connect with the near-Quietest Clark. He then had an experience of “pure love” and became a regular on the Holiness / Camp-meeting circuit.
