1881 D. L. MOODY. First Edition of Sovereign Grace in Near Fine Conditon w/Autograph.

A superbly preserved first edition of one of D. L. Moody's rarer titles, published at the height of his international popularity by his brother-in-law, Fleming H. Revell.  The text, which is slightly more doctrinal than Moody's want, lays out his central message of simple, accessible grace, emphasizing that salvation is a free divine gift rather than a reward for works. It is perhaps the clearest articulation of what Moody himself believed the Gospel to be, and was likely written as a response to critics who suggested his articulation of the Gospel lacked clarity. he then included "Four Gospel Dialogues" at the end of the text, providing a transcript-style look at Moody's conversational, direct evangelistic methods, illustrating how he addressed common doubts and objections during his massive urban revival campaigns across Britain and the United States and how he applied the doctrines of the previous part of the book.

Very good, near fine. Cloth exceptionally clear in color and the black and gold embossing to cover crisp and bright. The very faintest of stains on the rear cloth and some minor rubbing to corners. Textually crisp and clean with minor foxing to foredge. Very solid.
