A very scarce work of holiness itinerant preacher, John Scarlett of the Newark Conference. Born in 1803, he was for many years an infidel, but was converted under the Methodists. He then came into contact with Phoebe Palmer, who gifted him a copy of her Faith and its Effects. He was an immediate advocate and began traveling under the Palmer's influence and preaching instant and entire holiness through faith.
He preached at camp-meetings, continued his life-long relationship with the Palmers, became friends with John S. Inskip, Lewis R. Dunn, etc., Finally, it was Phoebe Palmer who recommended he write his experience in the form of an autobiography. It was then published by W. C. Palmer, Phoebe's husband.
Very scarce on the market with no other copies on offer at present.

This copy inscribed on the ffep by Portland, Michigan early settler, A. F. Morehouse, who was a Methodist, Temperance, man, etc.
Good -, some stains as shown, rodentia damage at upper right of front board. Still quite solid, mull exposed through paper at front interior hinge, but remaining tight. Textually very clean and sound; one leaf bound forward in block and trimmed just affecting the final one or two letters of each line on that single leaf.
