A very handsome three large 4to volume set of C. J. Ellicott's classic New Testament Commentary for English Readers, with its focus on making the structure of the Greek text accessible.

B. B. Warfield said of Ellicott, "you cannot read six lines of Bishop Ellicott . . . without feeling through and through that here is a man of God studying the Word of God. Let us make such commentators our models in our study of the Word, and learn like them to keep in mind Whose word it is we are dealing with, even when we are merely analyzing its grammatical expression."

C. H. Spurgeon praised Ellicott for being "distinguished by close and uniform adherence to grammatical canon" and "in many respects without an English rival."

Under Ellicott's editorial watch, many of the finest scholars of the era contributed to fulfill his goal of rendering the Greek New Testament accessible to everyone.

Ellicott, Charles John [Editor]. A New Testament Commentary for English Readers by Various Writers. London. Cassell & Company. 1884.

A very attractive large three volume set in half polished leather, six compartments on the spine, raised bands, and pebbled cloth on boards. Some rubbing, occasionally through on corners, boards a bit faded with a few stains. Spine leather and structure very attractive and sound. Interior very crisp and clean with only the lightest of sporadic foxing. Ownership plate and signature on prelims only. A very attractive and solid set.
