An exceptionally crisp copy of a very rare work on the history of vaccination. Claiming to be non-partisan, the work, at least in the end, is what I would call vaccination-cautious rather than purely anti-vaccination. A slight air of suspicion is evident, which should not be surprising. Winterburn worked, as many, across the lines of formal medicine and homeopathy and, as today, there tended to be suspicious of the medical establishment, i.e. big pharma among naturalists and homeopathic specialists.

Interestingly, George Muller's Orphanages are used as a case study for vaccination from small pox.

No copies in the auction history in over 100 years and none available for sale at the time of cataloguing.

Winterburn, George William. Ph.D., M.D. Editor of the American Homeopathist; President of the American Obstetrical Society; Late Lecturer on Clinical Medicine, and Physician-in-Chief to the Manhattan Hospital; Fellow of the American Akademe; Member of the Anthropological Society; the New York Academy of Sciences, the American Institute of Homeopathy, etc., Philadelphia. F. E. Boericke, Hahnemann Publishing House. 1886. 182pp.

Very good in crisp, clean cloth. Aside from a faint tide mark at the foredge of the text block, in near fine condition.
