An absolutely superb 320pp original unpublished homiletic manuscript containing 76 sermons in the binding, and a further two loosely inserted. All in the hand of Rev. Elias T. Sanford, a long-time and highly-regarded Circuit preacher among the Wesleyan Methodists.

The first half or so of the sermons, 1886 through 1890 or so, were delivered in Oundle, near Peterborough. Then the remainder in Market Harborough, about 20 miles away. He was later Circuit Preacher at Mansfield, just north of the previous two.

The Wesleyans were then the revivalistic branch of the Methodist movement in England, with a commitment to the doctrines of pure love, entire sanctification, and a fervent spirituality fueled by camp-meetings, holiness conferences, etc.

Sermons include an extended series on the book of Jonah, on Holiness, Transfiguration, Jacob's Wrestling, Spiritual Worship, Wiles of the Devil, the Spirit's Witness [Adoption], Prayer of Ephesians, Spiritual Warfare, Witness of the Sprit, Show me Thy Glory, etc. etc.

Also includes a loose MSs poem on the death of Sergeant Bruce Lionel Siddons [April 3, 1886-September 1, 1918]. He was born in Oundle to Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Siddons and died at the attack at Peronne. The lines were written by Mary Siddons and recount his death during the war; apparently unpublished.

All housed in an attractive vellum binding, solid and clean with one leaf detached. Name penciled on ffep. Some minor shorthand throughout, not rendering the MSs illegible.
