The front cover image of a very evidently constipated gentleman contemplating the dreaded pill is untraced elsewhere and likely original. After this is a rather lengthy 1 page essay on the evils of taking pills, then a Sketch of the History of Political Parties, Including Notices of Slavery in Indiana, The Monroe Doctrine, Protective Tarrifs, Anti-Slavery Societies, Locofocos, The Civil War, The Thirteenth Amendment, The Emancipation Proclamation, etc., Then a Section Entitled [in all bold, caps] CONSTIPATION. THE BANE OF CIVILIZATION!, a section on the wonder working laxitive properties of tropical fruits, physician and druggist opinions, etc.
