An absolutely superb C. H. Spurgeon print and manuscript artifact.
This two-fold item includes on one side of the bifolium a pre-printed manuscript facsimile thank you note to a donor. By this time, Spurgeon was raising funds into a general fund that was distributed variously to the Orphanage, Pastor's College, etc., These alone are quite scarce.
The present example than has a full original MSs letter to its recipient on the obverse.
"Dear Friend,
Your kindness is one of the refreshments of my life. I am often weary, and the Lord renews my strength by draughts of human sympathy, which I regard as His own love poured into an earthen cup. Thank you very heartily for all your remembrances of me & of my work.
The sermon is very precious. The pictures all interest me very much.
Mrs. Spurgeon is pretty right when she keeps indoors: even a little ride may be too much. We are glad to be able to keep on & on. I believe we have as much as ever of the divine blessing.
Yours ever gratefully,
C. H. Spurgeon"
