A very scarce work which only went through one printing and is now exceptionally rare on the market. In a mammoth work of over 700 pages, J. S. Evans argues what has come to be known as "dual covenant" or "two covenant" theology, i.e. that there was a baptism that equated to alignment with faithful Judaism and also a baptism of the Spirit. These, according to Evans, formed two covenanted communities; one of the regenerate and one of faithful Israel.

It is one of the most significant and earliest articulations of the doctrine ever published.

Evans, J. S. Baptizing and Teaching: Evans' New Exposition of Ritual Baptism and of the Baptism with the holy Spirit as seen when set back in their right places in the Great System of Revealed Truth, Namely, as Pertaining to the Teaching Department of the Christian Dispensation, and not to its Purifying Agencies and Means. Toronto: William Briggs. 1887. 721pp.
