1890 B. M. PALMER. Rare New Orleans Presbyterian - Lessons on Sorrow.
Very rare work by New Orleans' Presbyterian, B. M. Palmer [1818-1902]. His works on Prayer, etc., were reprinted by Sprinkle. The present has never been re-issued to my knowledge. He is one of those who appears as a mystery to us today; his sermons are richly devotional, his relish of Christ rich. And yet, he was first moderator of the Presbyterian Church of the Confederate States of America and was personally instrumental in influencing Louisiana to join the Confederacy. Just after Lincoln's inauguration, Palmer preached a now infamous sermon charging the South with preserving the institution of Slavery. The present includes much "the South" language and accounts from the period of the Civil War.
