A wonderful item. The text itself is superb, tying the missionary revival of the modern era to the Acts of the Apostles. Pierson was uniquely suited to tell this story. He was a long-time pastor, interim at the Metropolitan Tabernacle while Spurgeon was on his death-bed. But he was also a scholar of missions work; he edited the most important missionary journal of the day and was indefatigable in his support of the cause.
So, an excellent work, neatly inscribed on the blank ffep, "To my dear Lily. With my best love & prayers that she may contribute a new 'chapter.' Arthur T. Pierson. July 15, 1897."
Retained with the volume, and often missing, is the 14 panel, 14 inch by 30 inch folding chromolithographed map of the world and its current status of evangelization. This is printed on linen and wax coated. These were often removed and framed, but this one is looking great and still present.
Pierson, A. T. The New Acts of the Apostles; or the Marvels of Modern Missions. A Series of Lectures Upon the Foundation of the Duff Missionary Lectureship. With a Chromo-Lithographic Map Showing the Prevailing Religions of the World, their Comparative Areas and the Progress of Evangelisation. Introduction by Andrew Thomson. London. James Nisbet. 1896. 451pp.
Original maroon cloth, some light fading to spine and minor wear at extremities; gutter just slightly exposed before blank title, some light toning. Else very crisp and clean. A good + to very good volume.
