1897 J. C. RYLE &c. Autograph Album of Victorian Bishops & Divines. Very Good!
A lovely late 19th century assemblage of over 30 autographs and autograph letters by influential divines of the late 19th century.
Largely dating to 1897 and 1898, the album includes:
William Walsham How [d.1897]; author of over 50 hymns, many of which still remain in use.
C. J. Ellicott. Signed sentiment by one of the most influential Anglican commentators of the day; his works still very much in use.
Brooke foss Westcott short letter regarding foreign missions. Of course half the pair of Westcott and Hort of the revised Greek Text. He was an influential preacher, theologian, and commentator.
W. Boyd Carpenter. Autographed stationary. A strong evangelical, heavily involved with the Keswick and other higher life movements, etc.
J. C. Ryle. Three full autographs signed as the Bishop of Liverpool, i.e. J. C. Liverpool [as usual]
Alfred R. Tucker, Bishop of Africa and influential Anglican Missiologist.
John Taylor Smith, Bishop of Sierra Leone, West Africa
Samuel Wilberforce, Bishop of Oxford [and son of William]
Edward Henry Bickersteth, Bishop of Exeter [hymnist, theologian, etc.]
Etc. etc. Most with original envelopes to their original recipient, Harold Wood Esq of Exeter College, Oxford.
Three Ryle autographs alone worth the price of the album.
