This example custom bound by A. & D. McGregor in full soft-polished calf with stylized plain bands on spine articulating to green and red overdyed floral decorations on the front and rear board. A subtle and beautiful example of the era.
Signed in binders' blind pallet on bottom of rear dentelle: “Bound by R.. A. & D. McGregor Aird.” From the father and daughter firm of Duncan McGregor (1842-1921) and Alice McGregor Aird (1893-1976). Bindings by the pair have fetched thousands of dollars and are highly desirable. Their bindings were advertised in The Studio magazine in 1908.
