A superb Arts & Crafts Scottish binding evocative of the design of Talwin Morris, Charles Rennie Mackintosh, and the Glasgow School of design.

This example custom bound by A. & D. McGregor in full soft-polished calf with stylized plain bands on spine articulating to green and red overdyed floral decorations on the front and rear board. A subtle and beautiful example of the era.

Signed in binders' blind pallet on bottom of rear dentelle: “Bound by R.. A. & D. McGregor Aird.” From the father and daughter firm of Duncan McGregor (1842-1921) and Alice McGregor Aird (1893-1976). Bindings by the pair have fetched thousands of dollars and are highly desirable. Their bindings were advertised in The Studio magazine in 1908.

The Book of Common Prayer and Administration of the Sacraments and Other Rites and Ceremonies of the Church According to the Use of the Church of England. Together with the Psalter or Psalms of David, Pointed as they are to be Sung or Said in Churches: And the Form and Manner of Making, Ordaining, and Consecrating of Bishops, Priests, and Deacons. Oxford. Printed at the University Press. Small Pica 24mo Thin. Nd. c.1900.

Very good condition, small surface abrasion as shown across front board, spine pristine, some bumping at corners.
