1904 HEBREW BIBLE. In Fine Binding and Owned by Michigan Representative.
Very attractive half leather 1904 fine edition of the Hebrew Bible belonging to Michigan Representative, Joseph W. Fordney.
Joseph Warren Fordney [1853- 1932] was an early lumberman in Northeastern Michigan. After success in his commercial business, he ran for the House of Representatives, representing Saginaw County and Central Michigan in the U.S. House of Representatives for twenty-four years.
While serving on the Ways and Means Committee, he was instrumental in having George Washington Carver appear before them. Allotted 10 minutes, Fordney advocated for more time and ended up incorporating protections for Carver’s work in upcoming legislation.
He was a devout student of Scripture and an avid supporter of the Bible Societies, purchasing and having custom bound one of nearly every imprint of the American Bible Society.
