An absolutely superb edition of both series of Francis Turner Palgrave's The Golden Treasury bound by the renowned London firm Riviere & Son, featuring a luxurious full dark-green crushed levant morocco binding crafted in the turn-of-the-century Arts and Crafts tradition. The covers are intricately decorated with elaborate gilt-tooled floral and leaf motifs framing central roundels, complemented by five raised bands on the spine with gilt-patterned compartments, fine gilt turn-ins, marbled endpapers, and all-gilt page edges. This binding was used on a very limited number of Palgrave volumes and also on a small quantity of The Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam. We trace several examples of The Rubaiyat, but none of the Golden Treasury. Bindings of the very highest order.

Near fine with very minor color softening to spine as usual. Else nearly pristine with appropriate patination to gold tooling and foredges, etc.
