1913 METHODIST MISSIONS. Superb 12 Volume Custom Boxed Set on History of Methodist Missionaries!
We have handled perhaps one or two of these over the years, and it's always a delight when they arrive. Created to celebrate the centenary of the Wesleyan Methodist Missionary Society, the set includes ten separate titles all with different biographies, histories, or accounts of the history of specific Methodist missionaries. All twelve are in matching blue cloth bindings and perfectly housed in a cathedral style wooden book with a wooden plaque at the bottom reading "1813 WMMS 1913" and a small metal onlay of John Wesley.
Titles include:
Francis Asbury by George P Mains
John Martin. Pioneer Missionary [to the Slave Coast], and Saint by W. Terry Coppin
John Hunt. Pioneer Missionary [to Fiji] and Saint. by Joseph Nettleton
A Mission to the Transvaal [South Africa] by Amos Burnet
Methodism in the West Indies by Henry Adams
Methodism in West Africa by J. T. F. Halligey
Thomas Coke by Francis B. Upham
Chu and Lo. Two Chinese Pastors by C. Wilfrid Allan
Methodism in Central China by George A. Clayton
David Hill. Apostle to the Chinese by W. T. A. Barber
Ceylon and its Methodism by Thomas Moscrop and Arthur E. Restarick
Sydney Rupert Hodge. The Beloved Physician {Medical Missionary to China] by J. K. Hill.
Very attractive. The wood housing itself is very attractive with expected patination and wear. The "box" itself is very solid, some rubbing with minor loss at front left edge at crown; foredge of bevelled plinth is tender and should be treated with care; easily remediable if it worsens. The books are all quite good; the spines have experiences some wear and fading; the covers are bright and crisp; and the text is very solid and clean throughout.
