1925 ALMA WHITE. The Ku Klux Klan in Prophecy. The Klan God's Agents to Protect American Purity.
A very rare imprint in which influential Methodist Holiness Bishop, Alma White, argues that the Klan are native to the predictions of the Old Testament [and America is the new Israel] and that they are sent by God to protect the spiritual purity of America against immigrants, many of whom are Catholic and hold other religious views.
White was ordained by W. B. Godbey and was incredibly influential during the era. And yet, there was little pushback against the present work. Issued not long after the infamous The Birth of a Nation, a Hollywood film with similar themes, these reflected significant sentiment among white Christians in the country. America was God's country. Catholics and other immigrants were invading and ruining it. This "purity" culture even had a medical corollary in the eugenics movement, which was also widely accepted.
Scarce in the trade.
