1927 BRAM STOKER. Dracula. First Grosset & Dunlap Edition Pre-Dating 1931 Film Edition

A very nice 1927 Grosset & Dunlap edition of Bram Stoker's Dracula, issued as the "StagePlay" tie-in edition, released to coincide with the landmark Broadway adaptation starring Bela Lugosi at the Fulton Theatre in New York. It was issued several years before Universal Pictures released its famous 1931 film adaptation. 

This release bridged Stoker's original 1897 gothic novel and the modern pop-culture image of the vampire. Lugosi's portrayal on stage redefined Count Dracula from the grotesque, subhuman monster described in Stoker’s text into a suave, charismatic, and hypnotic aristocrat in a evening cape, a performance that catapulted the production to massive success and led directly to his casting in the iconic film.

Good +. Original orange cloth in very crisp, bright state with some ink transfer from the dustjacket as shown. The smallest possible nib through at the lower front hinge, appx .5mm. Textually exceptionally bright and clean. A few faint bits of foxing on the front pastedown. The textblock uniquely good. Includes the rare first edition, first state dustjacket. Small losses at the head of spine, tears and light color loss at turn ins, and some general curling at extremities. The dj good -.

An example in a better dustjacket but the book itself not as well preserved just hammered at over $2,000 with commissions in Chicago and examples in less quality cloth with no dustjacket are now fetching nearly our asking price at auction.
