A very smartly preserved true first edition, the American preceding the British, of The Fairy Caravan.
"With the exception of Little Pig Robinson, which was published in 1930, Beatrix Potter hadnow finished her Peter Rabbit series of stories. . . . She had no intention of producing another book until Alexander McKay came over from Philadelphia and persuaded her to do so. It was intended that his book should be printed only in American. . . Beatrix Potter did not wish for an English edition . . . she felt that the stories were 'too personal---too autobiographical' to publish in this [her home] country." (Linder p.292).
Potter, Beatrix. The Fairy Caravan. Philadelphia. David McKay Company. 1929. First Edition. 225pp.
Very good condition with original full color lithographed front panel in a remarkably good state, a few smallish flecks of white to cloth and very minor handling at lower corner of image. Interior very good with just the slightest occasional thumbing. No ownership marks. A superb example.
