1932 RAY BERGMAN. Fly Fishing for Trout. Superb Riviere Leather Binding.
A superb copy of Ray Bergman's classic on fly fishing for trout and other game fish in American streams, beautifully illustrated throughout, and this a very limited edition printed on fine paper by Hutchinson & Co of London and then bound by Riviere & Sons especially for limited sale by Marshall Field & Co., at that time one of the finest retailers of high-end goods in America.
We trace no other example of this superb production at auction or private sale at anything approximating "recent."
Bergman, Ray. Just Fishing. Illustrated in Color and Line by Fred Everett. Fly Plates Painted by Dr. Edgar Burke. London. Hutchinson & Co. 1932. 1933. 418pp.
Superb polished, mottled calf with tooled borders, raised spines, contrasting title and author morocco panels, pictorial cartouche in spine compartments of a rod, net, trident, and fish; a trout in stream; a catch of trout; and a solitary trout [perhaps a grayling]. Dentils are tooled, foreges brightly burnished in liquid bright gold, custom endpapers, then stamp-signed on ffep by Riviere and Sons. Text block absolutely solid, pages bright, crisp and clean. No signatures or personal markings of any kind.
Very good condition with some very slight rubbing at extremities, slight dulling to morocco label color, and micro-chips at head of spine. A splendid, collector worthy example.
