John Taylor Smith [1860-1938] was Evangelical Anglican bishop to Sierra Leone before being appointed Chaplain over all the Armed Force of England. He regularly attended, spoke at, and was asked to open prayer at the Convention.
A noted early riser, after his death, the friends of Keswick published, "Gems from Bishop Taylor Smith's Bible" which included marginal notes made during his 4am season of prayer and reading each day.
The present, on a single sheet, is an unpublished prayer written by Taylor Smith and is from an extensive collection of Keswick related autographs, etc.,
"4.50am. <2.X.1933>
Blessed Lord & Master!
I think & praise Thee with my whole being, for the way by which Thou hast led & blessed me.
As I enter upon this new day - manifest Thy presence & power at each unfolding minute & at every step.
Give & guard me in conversation & correspondence.
Inspire me with fresh visions of Thyself to meet Thy Calling.
-Reveal Thy Will
-Impart Thy Grace
-Work mightly to & through Thy servant for Thy dear Name's sake.
Amen."
